Corporate responsibility

Our commitment

We acknowledge that leadership brings with it many responsibilities towards society and the environment in general and, in particular, towards our shareholders, employees, customers and suppliers, as well as the many millions of people who come into daily contact with Rexam’s products in one way or another.

For Rexam, corporate responsibility (CR) is a key element of good business strategy – managing risk and reputation – and we have a longstanding set of objectives regarding our commitment to the protection of the environment and the minimisation of the environmental impact of our operations and products.

We have had formal environmental policies in place since 1991 and are continually developing and implementing effective management systems throughout our operations. Equally, we have robust processes in place to ensure the health and safety of our workforce and anyone entering our premises. We are now expanding those processes to other aspects of our employees’ well-being.

On wider social issues, our management teams throughout the world have shown themselves to be adept at understanding and responding to the other wider expectations that society has of our business.

We do not pretend to have all the answers. However, we have demonstrated through our first Environmental and Social Report, published in 2003, that we understand not only the issues but also the need to do more. We also recognise that the views of our stakeholders will be extremely valuable in helping us to understand how best to balance our commitment to CR with the many other demands placed upon us.
