We are at the forefront of innovation in closure packaging. Rexam holds a number of patented product designs.

Our R&D group is where scientists, marketers and engineers come together to share their expertise. They look at advances in material sciences, new plastics, processes, development tools and product features and elements.

Our innovations include Deltop technology, which offers a superior thread profile; multi-lead closures; a child-resistant nestable jar and closure system; and an 'expanded' jar and closures package, which combines the economics of a single wall jar with the flush finish of a blow-moulded jar.

Every one of our customers is supported by a New Product Development Team who help define, determine and diagnose exactly what is required of the new product and offer suggested solutions. We have developed several tools to expedite this process:

• Concept rendering, where we can show precise 3D assembly models
• Stereolithography apparatus samples are used to see, touch and perform limited testing on actual models
• FEA (finite element analysis) is used to evaluate the stress-strain, material utilisation and moulding characteristics of designs
• Unit tool samples allow performance evaluations of actual designs, line trials and user focus group studies.
