Back in 2006, Rexam began to focus on beverage cans for wine. Since then, we have commissioned a number of valuable research projects to understand consumers and the industry in greater detail. The three main pieces of research include:
Through this research we analysed the behaviour of the wine inside the can, making sure that there was no loss of quality as a result of filling wine in cans.
At the end of the research, science proved us right and the results demonstrated that the quality of the wine remains the same, with no metal taste or damage to the flavour.
This research helped us understand what consumers were expecting from wine packaging and their opinions of the can – more importantly, was it right for wine?
Consumers agreed with us that this was a good idea! Responding that wine packaged in single serve cans was convenient for their lifestyles.
With an increased focus on the environment and the impact of packaging, we carried out a transport study in September 2008. It was important that we demonstrated that our cans are not only environmentally efficient from a recycling point of view but from a transport point of view as well.
Results were astonishing, with less emissions ranging from 65% to 540% versus glass!
